José Joaquín Jara Donoso, PhD in Economic Geology from Universidad de Chile, MSc Eng with a specialization in Mineral Economics, and Mining Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
He is a professor, researcher, and consultant in the Department of Mining Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He has more than 20 years of professional experience across government institutions, mining companies, and academia, linked to the development of the mining industry in Chile and Latin America. He served for more than 15 years as a Board Member of CESCO, the leading mining-related think tank in Latin America, and as a former Board Member of COCHILCO, the public advisory body to the Ministry of Mining on mineral markets, public policy, and the oversight and regulation of state-owned mining companies. He is a frequent speaker at mining industry conferences and seminars and has authored more than 30 articles and reports published in scientific journals and by national and international institutions.
His consulting and research work has focused on topics such as the technical and economic evaluation of mining projects; operational management and excellence in mining; and mineral markets and sectoral public policies.
Previously, he served as Superintendent of Mine Planning and Development at Minera El Tesoro Ltda. (Antofagasta Minerals), Senior Engineer in the Operations Vice Presidency of Antofagasta Minerals, Senior Analyst of Studies and Public Policy at COCHILCO, and Studies Engineer in the Strategic Studies Division of Minera Escondida Ltda.
Areas of expertise: mineral economics and public policies related to the mining sector; technical and economic evaluation of mining projects and operations; operational management and excellence in mining; and economic geology, geochemistry, and geochronology of mineral deposits.
