Luis Abdón Cifuentes es ingeniero civil de la P. Universidad Católica de Chile, Master en Ciencias en Ingeniería Civil y Ph.D en Ingeniería y Políticas Públicas de la Universidad Carnegie Mellon.
Es profesor del Departamento de Ingeniería Industrial y de Sistemas. Ha sido profesor adjunto e investigador asociado del Departamento de Ingeniería y Políticas Públicas de Carnegie Mellon. Su labor docente incluye cursos de Gestión Ambiental, Análisis de Riesgo, Economía Ambiental y Evaluación de Proyectos. Ha guiado numerosas tesis de Magíster y Doctorado en esos ámbitos, además de impactos de la contaminación atmosférica y percepción de riesgo. Ha sido consultor de CEPAL, asesor de la “Clean Air Initiative for Latin American Cities” del Banco Mundial, del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo , Autor principal del 3er y 4to. Informe del PICC, y ha participado activamente en la “Integrated Environmental Strategies” de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de EE.UU.. Ha realizado estudios para CONAMA, CNE, SECTRA y varias empresas privadas. Es miembro de la Sociedad de Análisis de Riesgo, la Air and Waste Management Association, y la International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, entre otras.
