Iván Sola

Profile

Iván Sola is a faculty member in the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering and the Institute for Sustainable Development at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. His primary research focuses on the environmental dimensions of managing and regulating brine discharges from desalination plants to ensure the long-term sustainable operation of desalination, through project development and decision-making within a public–private collaboration framework. He addresses both the requirements embedded in environmental regulations and those needed for robust long-term environmental monitoring during plant operation. He also integrates economic and social considerations to develop projects that minimize the cost of producing desalinated water and to advance community engagement so projects can be implemented without generating socio-environmental conflict.
