Profile
Nadia Guajardo Ramírez studied Bioprocess Engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV), Chile. She obtained her PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the same university in 2014. Currently, she is an Associate Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She co-founded IONCHEM, a technology spin-off focused on the design and production of functionalized solvents. Her research aims to optimize bioprocesses through biocatalyst and reaction medium engineering, and by identifying and integrating product separation processes.
Regarding biocatalyst engineering, she works with various biocatalyst stabilization methodologies to enable their reuse and application across batch, fed-batch, and continuous bioreactor configurations. In reaction medium engineering, she evaluates, for example, the application of green solvents and the development of liquid and gaseous biphasic systems depending on the type of biotransformation. The separation of products of interest is also considered, using various separation methodologies and modalities, including discontinuous, semi-continuous, and continuous.
