Dr. Marcos Moreno is an Associate Professor at the School of Engineering of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research focuses on subduction zone dynamics, with a particular emphasis on the Chilean margin. He also serves as Principal Investigator at the Millennium Institute of Oceanography. Dr. Moreno integrates geodetic data (GNSS, InSAR, ocean-bottom pressure sensors) and seismic observations with advanced numerical modeling to study subduction zone coupling, slow slip events, forearc faulting, and long-term tectonic deformation. He has led several research projects funded by national and international agencies (ANID, DFG, ERC), including the development of amphibious observation systems along the Chilean trench. Dr. Moreno earned his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Berlin and was a researcher at GFZ Potsdam, Germany. He actively participates in scientific committees such as FONDECYT, CIMAR-CONA, and SZ4D, and serves as an editor for AGU Advances. His work aims to bridge geoscientific knowledge with hazard assessment and disaster risk reduction.
