Claudio Mourgues es ingeniero civil de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, con un M.Sc. de la misma universidad y un Ph.D. de la Universidad de Stanford. Se desempeña como académico del Departamento de Ingeniería y Gestión de la Construcción de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile desde donde imparte docencia de pre y postgrado centrada en las tecnologías de información en la industria de la construcción y el trabajo colaborativo multidisciplinario.

Su investigación busca contribuir al entendimiento, desarrollo e implementación del diseño y construcción virtual (uso de modelos de producto, proceso y organización para apoyar el diseño, construcción y operación de infraestructura), particularmente en las áreas de Building Information Modeling (BIM), realidades extendidas (virtual, aumentada y mixta), Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG), Modelos 4D (3D + tiempo), simulación de procesos, optimización paramétrica de diseño, y otros.

Algunos de sus trabajos de investigación y con la industria incluyen el estudio de estrategias de implementación que busquen sinergias entre BIM y Construcción sin pérdidas (Lean Construction), uso de realidad virtual para apoyar la evacuación de tsunamis, realidad aumentada y mixta para la toma de decisiones en obra, formalización de la evaluación de conflictos en zonas de trabajo usando modelos 4D, aplicación de SIG para apoyar la gestión de pavimentos urbanos, optimización de diseño a través de modelación paramétrica, y uso de BIM en la coordinación de especialidades y estimaciones de costo.
