Profile

Benjamin Herrmann received his PhD in Fluid Dynamics from Universidad de Chile in 2018. From 2019 to 2021 he was a DAAD PRIME postdoctoral fellow at TU Braunschweig and University of Washington. He then returned to Universidad de Chile as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Since 2025, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering and the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, as well as an Associate Collaborator at CENIA. His research combines physics-based modeling with machine learning to understand and control the dynamics of complex systems in science and engineering applications, with a particular interest in fluid flows relevant to aeronautics, transportation, and energy conversion. He is the author of numerous scientific articles in the leading journals in his field.
