Miguel Gutiérrez Gaitán is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and a Collaborator at the CISTER Research Centre in Porto, Portugal. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Porto, an M.Sc. in Telecommunications Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, and a degree in Electronic Engineering from PUCV in Valparaíso.

His research focuses on real-time networks and the Internet of Things (IoT), with an emphasis on wireless communication, sensing, and channel modeling in industrial, vehicular, and maritime environments. He has been a visiting researcher at INRIA Paris (2022) and INESC TEC (2025), and has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications in venues such as IEEE Sensors Journal, ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems, and IEEE GLOBECOM.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Chile Chapter (2025–2026), Board Member of IEEE ComSoc Latin America (2024–2025), member of the IEEE ComSoc Young Professionals Committee, and Associate Editor for IEEE Communications Letters.
