Profile

PhD in Mineral Science from Murdoch University, Australia, and Metallurgical Civil Engineer from the University of Concepción, Chile. She is also a member of the National Pilotage Center (Centro Nacional de Pilotaje) and the UC Energy Center (Centro de Energía UC). In 2015. She is director of Compromiso Minero Chile and member of COSOC Cochilco committee. She was honored with the “Outstanding Research or Artistic Creation” Award by Universidad Católica del Norte—the first time this award was granted within the Faculty of Engineering and Geological Sciences. In 2021, she was recognized as one of the "100 Inspirational Women in Mining" by WIM Chile. She is the creator and lead instructor of the course "Sustainability in Mining: A Gender and Inclusion Perspective", part of the Diploma in Inclusive Leadership for the Future of Mining at PUC.
Her research specializes in sustainable hydrometallurgical processes, focusing on the extraction of refractory minerals such as black oxides and copper sulfide ores in chloride media, reprocessing of mining wastes (tailings, waste dumps, and leach residues), and urban mining, particularly the recovery of valuable metals from electronic waste. Her work has explored areas such as chalcopyrite dissolution, sustainable seawater use, microbial processing, reuse of industrial salts, organic chemical agents, and data mining.
She has conducted research and innovation projects in collaboration with major mining companies including BHP Billiton, Anglo American Los Bronces, Minera Michilla, Glencore Lomas Bayas, KGHM Minera Franke, Soquimich, and numerous small and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, she serves as a consultant and advisor to organizations such as Codelco, CodelcoTech, CIPTEMIN, KGHM, Soquimich, , TRESIN.
Her international academic partnerships include collaborations with Murdoch University (Australia), University of Cape Town (South Africa), and TU Freiberg (Germany), among others.
